It once again didn't look promising for the Broncos Saturday night after being out shot 19-5 in the first period before falling down 2-0 in the second frame in Yorkton but a late surge by a rookie winger turned their fortunes in their season finale.

Lanigan product Shane Sherban put the Terriers up up 1-0 before Tyler Baier gave the home side a 2-0 lead just past the half way point of the game but a couple first year Broncos made one last impression in the season closing game en route to a 5-4 win.

Laramie Kostelansky slapped his 11th goal of the year past Jakob Severson cutting the lead to 2-1 heading to the third period.

The third period belonged to Wesley Shipton. The 18 year-old Dawson Creek, BC native buried a couple rebounds past Severson 1:45 apart to start the period. He then blocked a Terriers' point shot earning himself a breakaway from the Bronco blue line that he slid through Severson's legs for the natural hat trick and a 4-2 lead.

Yorkton, looking to improve to ninth in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League standings ahead of the playoffs would continue to fight for points. Carson Welke snapped his 11th past Carter Seminuk making 4-3.

Yorkton then pulled Severson for the extra attacker but Trevor Posch forced a turnover at the Humboldt blue line and broke away firing his 20th goal into the yawning cage to restore the two goal lead with 1:26 remaining.

Kevin Wolf would draw the Terriers to within one again late but the Broncos held on to win their second straight to go out on a high note for their 45th season.

"It's a great way to finish off the year with two road wins," Shipton said after his career night. "We didn't have a great year on the road but it feels good to get the ones at the end of the year here."

That improves the Broncos' record to 17-36-4-1 and an 11th overall finish.

Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko continued to praise his team for their play down the stretch.

"I know Darcy(Haugan) and I talked about it before the game how easily this team could have folded their tents early on especially in February here. It could have been really tough for us to get through but they kept building and kept battling, we deserved to win here tonight."

The Terriers, despite their 10th place finish came in with the SJHL's top power-play, Humboldt held them to 1/7, the Broncos were 0/3 with the advantage.

Seminuk was quite good in goal turning aside 41/45 shots for his third win, Severson stopped 27/31.

Three of the Broncos goals were unassisted, Tristan Hermanson, Landon Markovich, Daniel McKitrick and Andrew McCann picked up assists in the game.

Humboldt will hold their awards banquet on Tuesday night at the Pioneer Hotel.
