For the sixth year in a row, the Lake Lenore Lancers are district champions in high school cross country running.

The Horizon Central Athletic Association held their district championship at Rowan's Ravine near Strasbourg on Tuesday.

In cross country, points are awarded individually, based on finish. The higher they finish, the lower the team's score is.

Lake Lenore took the top spot with eight points. Strasbourg were the runner-ups with 10 points, while Middle Lake and Muenster split third place with 13 points apiece.

In addition, the top ten finishers in Midget, Junior and Senior age categories qualified for provincials, which will be held in Delisle on Saturday, October 15.

District champions were:

  • Senior Boys: Brayden Mytopher, Strasbourg; Senior Girls: Ashley Hards, Watrous
  • Junior Boys: Jerome Montpetit, Bruno; Junior Girls: Alyson Edwards, Strasbourg
  • Midget Boys: Dalton Kiedrowski, Lake Lenore; Midget Girls: Jade Smith, Lake Lenore
  • Bantam Boys: Adam Mytopher, Strasbourg; Bantam Girls: Alyssa Regie, LeRoy
  • Peewee Boys: Rayden Ottmann, St. Augustine; Peewee Girls: Cara Dobrohoczki, Middle Lake
  • Weepee Boys: Rylen Sigstad, Lanigan; Weepee Girls: Laina Salter, Wynyard
