The Canalta Cup Final is all square after the opening weekend from the Centennial Arena in Nipawin.

The Nipawin Hawks bounced back after falling 5-2 in the series opener to the Estevan Bruins with a 4-1 win in front of near-sellout crowd of 1,122 fans at 'The Cage'.

Logan Casavant banged home a rebound while shorthanded for the Hawks to give the home team a 1-0 lead after the 1st period. Midget-aged callup Adam Beckman had a night to remember starting off by sniping a shot past Estevan's Bo Didur in the second period to make it 2-0 Nipawin after 40 minutes.

Arthur Miller got the Bruins' within one early into the 3rd period, beating Nipawin's Declan Hobbs to make it 2-1. But halfway through the final frame, Beckman cleaned up his own rebound for his second goal of the night to restore the Hawks' two-goal lead. Casavant added his second of the game into the empty net in the final two minutes to make the final score 4-1.

Despite 18 combined powerplay opportunities, neither team could capitalize while on the man advantage (Estevan - 0/8, Nipawin - 0/10). Nipawin outshot Estevan 38-24 in Game 2.

Games 3 & 4 return to Affinity Place in Estevan this Tuesday and Wednesday, with both games' already sold out as over 2,600 tickets have been sold for each night. The Bruins' are hosting a variety of fundraising initiatives with a goal of raising $75,000 for a fund supporting the families of Humboldt Broncos coach Darcy Haugan and assistant coach Mark Cross.
