As summer turns to fall, ice times are soon to be occupied by hockey players and those learning to skate.

Skate Humboldt is introducing their CanSkate program, with registration currently underway.

"The CanSkate program is a five level learn to skate program that is available for preschool up to adult," said Promotions Coordinator Patti Durand. "It is a core skating program that is useful in all ice sports or just learning to skate."

She says that in addition to teaching kids how to skate, they also learn ways to progress themselves as skaters.

"The way that it is designed is that whether the kid is just starting out, laying on the ice, or right up to basic skating levels, it gives them the core abilities, plus the program allows them to advance levels throughout the season."

Durand added that for parents who aren't sure if their child is ready to try skating, there is a no obligation test run.

"We do have a 30-day trial period, meaning that if you're unsure if your child is ready for it, it gives them the ability to try it out and decide if they're ready for it."

Skate Humboldt's season is set to begin October 17, and Durand says they have a jam packed slate to keep the kids busy throughout the winter.

"We move all the way through to March. We have various family skate days. There is a Christmas party, there is a regional skate competition, right through to our ice show that happens at the end of the season and the kids showcase the skills they have learned."

Registration for the CanSkate program can be done through the Skate Humboldt website.
