Team Laycock and St. Gregor's Kirk and Dallan Muyres will have to take an extra step in order to make the playoffs at the Tankard in Estevan.

After defeating Jason Jacobson 8-3 in Thursday morning's 'A' quarterfinal, the team fell 8-7 to Brady Kendel in the evening draw.

A back and forth game saw Laycock lead 3-2 through five ends when Kendel put down a three spot to go up 5-3.

Laycock was able to come back with two points to even the game and then steal another for the 6-5 lead before Kendel scored three more.

In the final end, Laycock was only able to get one point, securing the win for Kendel.

The loss to Kendel drops Laycock down to the 'B' event where they will meet defending champion Adam Casey at 12:00pm on Friday.

Casey and Laycock went head to head three times at the 2017 Tankard, with Laycock winning the 'A' final before Casey won twice in the playoffs.

Friday's meeting will have heavy importance to it. While both teams need to win three more games to make the playoffs, the loser will only have one strike left in which to do so.

Ice in Good Condition

Following the win over Jacobson, Kirk spoke on the conditions at Estevan's Affinity Place.

"This ice is unbelievable. It's my preference for some of the best ice we can play on."

Muyres added that they need to become more precise as the week goes on in order to keep their winning chances strong.
