Over the past nine weeks, Synchro Saskatchewan has put on a trial run of synchronized swimming in Humboldt.

The sport, which involves various aspects of coordination and strength is something new to the city, as Taya Amundson, Technical Director with Synchro Saskatchewan explains.

"It involves incredible endurance, flexibility, strength. It basically it's like so many different aspects of sport wrapped up into one. Some consider it like ballet in the water," she explained. "We do it to music. There is counting, there is synchronization, but there is also doing that upside down without breathing, so its a very difficult sport."

Beginning at 5:30pm Sunday at the Aquatic Centre, athletes partaking in the nine week program will get to show off what they have learned.

"We're going to have a demonstration of local Humboldt swimmers who have been involved in a nine week program. As well, we're going to have swimmers from Wynyard and Saskatoon to showcase their abilities."

Amundson says that there has been a high level of interest in synchronized swimming since they first started measuring excitement for the sport at City Wide Registration in September.

With the extra interest, and the success of the first program, she added that Synchro Sask is looking to stay in Humboldt for good.

"We have a really amazing document put together that helps clubs that are new start. We also have grant opportunities for new clubs. We would love to run another session, because it looks there is interest in the Humboldt area."

Clubs already in the region include Wynyard and Lanigan.
