Team Saskatchewan has its representative for the Brier.

Kirk Muyres along with his brother Dallen and the Marsh twins, Kevin and Daniel, took home the Tankard Men's Provincial Championship and are set for the Tim Hortons Brier National Men's Championship running from March 2-11th in Brandon, Manitoba.

Muyres, a St. Gregor native, has been to the Brier four times before, but this will be his first time as a skip.

"I think it's just a little bit different. I remember in 2014 when we got our first trip, that was unbelievable. You never know if you're going to get a trip to the Brier, period, but to do it as a skip and get to throw that last stone for the win, it all hangs in your hands and your whole team is depending on you. It's pretty special and I always say as a skip your high's are higher and your low's are lower. When you lose you're devastated, but when you win, boy, it's exciting," said Kirk Muyres.

In order to qualify for the Brier, Muyres and co. had to get through some tough Saskatchewan competition during the Tankard Men's Provincial Championships.

It's been a whirlwind the last couple days. It was a pretty special victory. We know that most of our games are going to come down to the last rock. We played plenty of games like that this season, so we've kind of seasoned ourselves for it. We said going into the event, more than likely we're going to have a draw to the four foot or even a draw to the button to go to the Brier."

The prediction was correct as it came down to the final stone where Muyres needed a draw to the full eight to win the Tankard and represent Saskatchewan in the Brier.

"It felt good when I let it go, and then I heard the boys say it was a little bit light, but there wasn't any panic in their voice. About halfway to the house, after the hog-line, I knew it was going to be good and just needed to keep the boys sweeping it. It was about 20 seconds that felt like two minutes of very intense nervous times, but oh man, that's why we curl. It was so much fun to be apart of that final rock and watch the guys sweep it in there."

This is the first year that this foursome is together as a team, making it that much more impressive. The experience, however,  was not lacking, and what made it even more special for the group, is that it's made up of two pairs of brothers.

"It's so cool to be able to play with family and our dad was there coaching us as well. After you win you have a big hug and realize how special it is. We've worked our whole lives to get a chance to play in the Brier, and now its five times for me and six for Dallen. Obviously, the Marsh boys, anybody who knows them knows they're two of the nicest guys in curling. They have worked their butts off for a lot of years to get a chance at the Brier, and now they get to go. It's really neat to see them get their first try. You can see when that rock came to rest they were jumping for joy."

Team Muyres will go right back to work following a brief two or three days to celebrate the win, and they'll look to sweep their way to a National Championship for Saskatchewan.
