The Broncos weren't able to build off a home win Saturday on the road in Yorkton Sunday as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Terriers.

They did get a split in their back to back games but the result Sunday was disappointing according to Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko.

"You've got to win these hockey games," he churned on the post game show. "You want to be at the top of the league, you have to find ways to do it. I know we are back to back or whatever but it's a game we need, honestly we do and we didn't deserve it tonight, we really didn't."

This was the first time in four contests this year that Humboldt hasn't beaten Yorkton, one thing in common in their victories is they scored in the first period. Sunday the Terriers turned the tide. In a 38 second span late in the first period McKenzie Welke and Cole Keenleyside beat Garrett Mason making it 2-0 going to the break.

The Broncos would get what the doctor ordered, opening the second period with a power-play Erik Gardiner scored his first of two on the night just 35 seconds in. Parker Wakaruk and Luke Kempf picked up the assists on the 17 year-olds 14th goal of the year.

The Terriers bit back a couple times, LJ Naccarato and Carson Welke scored early and late to advance Yorkton's lead to 4-1.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's top sniper Chris Van Os-Shaw buried his 25th goal of the year before the middle frame was out making it 4-2 going to the second intermission. AAA midget call-up Matthew Smith picked up his first career point, Kobe Scott picked up the second assist.

Humboldt didn't go away quietly, the visitors peppered Nathan Hargrave in the Yorkton net with 20 of their 41 sots coming in the final 20 minutes. Gardiner got his second of the night with 3:03 remaining from Brayden Camrud and Xavier Labelle.

That's where the scoring was halted, Hargrave made 38 saves for the win, Mason stopped 35/39 in the loss.

At points in the game the Broncos dominated for minutes on end but consistently turning the puck over, even dating back to Saturday night puck security has been a concern.

"There is not many times that if you get the puck in deep that they are going to score all the way from their own end but if you only make them go half the ice because of turnovers it's going to make it pretty easy on them," Klimosko explained. "It's been sloppy, I agree 100 percent.

Humboldt is now resetting for three games in four days to close the pre-Christmas schedule starting Wednesday in Kindersley. Friday Weyburn visits Friday and Melfort comes to the Elgar Petersen Arena Saturday.

Klimosko said with these teams trying to chase down Humboldt in the standings they need to find wins.

"They're the teams we have to beat, it's got to be done, we have to figure it out before Christmas. There's some big games here yet, we need all the points we can get. It's only going to get harder."

All three games are 7:30 face-offs, Friday's affair is teddy bear toss and ugly sweater night, more details in the days to come.

Worth noting, Gardiner will depart Monday to join the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets in Medicine Hat. His future with the Broncos is up in the air as the hometown product shoots to stick at the major junior level. He is there for at least the World Junior Championship try-outs and possibly the tournament which runs from Boxing Day into the new year.
