It was two days of ups and downs, but Humboldt's Brianne Theisen-Eaton's final step in Rio is up and on to the podium.

Theisen-Eaton charged back from a tough start in Women's Heptathlon to claim the bronze medal with 6,653 points.

Entering the final day of competition in sixth place, Theisen-Eaton started the day strong with a jump of 6.48m in long jump. That effort pushed her back up to fifth and within striking distance of the podium.

Over the past couple of seasons, Theisen-Eaton has worked on upping her game in javelin, and it would ultimately push her over the top in Rio.

The 28-year-old HCI grad threw 47.36m on her first attempt, vaulting her from fifth to the third place position. With Germany's Carolin Schafer charging hard from the fourth place spot, Theisen-Eaton held on to a slim 12 point lead heading to the track for the 800m run.

With that lead in hand, Theisen-Eaton left nothing to be decided by fate, running a season best 2:09.50 to secure the bronze medal.

It was a historic finish for Theisen-Eaton, as she became the first Canadian to win an Olympic medal in Heptathlon.

Overall, it was the 12th medal of the games for Canada and first in Track and Field.
