Parker Tobin made 37 saves and saw a strong performance defensively infront of him as the Humboldt Broncos knocked the Melfort Mustangs out of the playoffs with a 3-0 win.

"It feels awesome. They took it to us in the first period which is what we expected. (Tobin) played awesome tonight and I'm so proud of all those guys," said Captain Logan Schatz following the win.

Schatz had the game's second goal, which came on the power play, giving the Broncos 11 goals on the man advantage in the series.

Jaxon Joseph continued to burn his old team, opening the scoring with his 6th goal of the series. Nick Shumlanski rounded out the scoreboard with a goal midway through the third.

The win over Melfort ends a long four year battle to win a playoff series for the Broncos, something Schatz knows all about, being the only player on the team who is leftover from the 2014 playoff run.

"It's been a struggle the past couple of years, so getting this win and moving on to the second round is awesome and super exciting," he said.

Similarly, that Broncos team also knocked out Melfort in the first round of the playoffs.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan lauded his team's willingness to do whatever it takes to claw their way to a victory.

That was on full display late in the third period when forward Conner Lukan blocked six shots on a Mustangs power play.

A blocked shot also led to Shumlanski's third period goal after it bounced out of the Broncos zone leading to a breakaway.

Schatz says that the team effort night in and night out is one of belief that they can go as far as they want.

"We have a great group of guys in the room. Darcy did a great job bringing everybody in, and we have everybody buying in right now and believing that we can do it."

The Broncos win will see them take on the top seeded Nipawin Hawks in the next round.

While Nipawin won all six regular season meetings, the last three games were all one goal contests.

"It will be a battle again," said Schatz. "They play an extremely heavy game with that small rink, and they know how to use it."

No dates have been finalized for the series, but it is likely that it will begin on Friday in Nipawin.
