How 'Swede' it is for Humboldt's Rebecca Unrau.

The recent University of British Columbia graduate has inked a deal with a women's pro hockey team in Sweden.

Unrau is still in shock that she will be playing out her dream in the Scandinavian country.

"I would have never thought Vancouver was a possibility so Sweden is far beyond," she beamed over the phone back in Saskatchewan.

Unrau had 12 goals and 12 assists for the T-Birds this past season, she is also one of just a pair of UBC players to ever collect 100 career points. That talent was key in her landing the pro deal, although she had other reasons as well.

"I want to say a big thank you to all my family members, they've all pushed me. I know both my parents, I did not want to go to Vancouver almost every year, I wanted to come back home but they pursued and they made me go back."

"I'm so thankful they did."

As is the UBC program, from winning just one game in her first year, Unrau's last game was loss in the national championship game, deservedly so she is very proud of the turnaround of the program.

It was through her university coach that the deal was completed. She is now preparing for the unknown with an open mind.

"I have no idea," she responded when asked if this was a career move. "My agent wants this to be a career thing but I guess we will go year by year."

Unrau will be heading the southeast Swedish city of Karlskrona in mid-August and will suit up for a second division women's team.

She graduated with a degree in Kinesiology.
