The Wakaw Warriors Girls Volleyball team will have a chance at another provincial championship.

Playing in regionals in Kinistino, the Warriors downed the hosts in two sets to win the title and punch their ticket to Kipling for provincials.

The Warriors defeated Wynyard in the provincial final last year to earn their 7th Gold in nine years.

Also qualifying from the Kinistino regional was Naicam, who swept Birch Hills in two sets to finish in third.

Other regional champions from the area included Englefeld, who edged Rose Valley in three sets. Wynyard won their regional, defeating Langenburg 2-0, while Lanigan swept Rosetown 2-0 in the Humboldt regional.

Wynyard defeated Langenburg to win regionals.

Lanigan is hosting provincials as regional champions.

Naicam and Muenster have also qualified for provincials. The Vikings finished third in their regional, while Muenster is an automatic qualifier as the 2A provincial host.

Lanigan and Rose Valley are hosting provincials for 4A and 1A teams as well.


On the boys side, conference play took place, with seven teams moving on to regionals.

Annaheim finished with a 4-0 record in Englefeld to win their conference. Cudworth and Middle Lake also qualified out of the five team round robin.

Bellevue/Wakaw followed the unbeaten path as well, finishing 4-0 in the St. Brieux conference.

Strasbourg, Wadena and St. Brieux were among the other Horizon Central teams to continue their season.

Humboldt was competing in Tisdale, and was on the unlucky side of a mathematical tiebreaker, finishing fourth and seeing their season end.
