While the Wynyard golden Bears and the Watrous Wildcats were Tackling Hunger for the food drive a game was also taking place.

In 2A six-man Conference 3 action the hometown Wynyard Golden Bears defeated the visiting Watrous Wildcats 45-40 in a hard fought game on Tuesday, October 9th

Wynyard had to overcome a steep second-half deficit as Watrous at one point lead 32 -14 midway through the third. Wynyard would get themselves back into the game, and into the lead for the first time, courtesy of scoring 3 TDS in last 4 minutes min of the third frame.

Touchdowns for either side in the fourth quarter would toss the lead back and forth. With 2:08 left on the clock and Watrous holding a 40-39 lead, Wynyard's defense forced a turnover on downs on their own 15-yard line. During the following drive, Wynyard would successfully gamble twice on third down to move the chains. Then with 42 seconds left Wynyard's QB found Wynyard's RB open over the middle who outraced the DB's to the endzone for winning score with 42 sec remaining.

A great ending to a very successful day for Wynyard where $361.00 and 326lbs of food was raised for the Wynyard and District Food Bank.

The playoff race should be extremely exciting this year as six of seven teams are still in playoff contention. Playoffs begin Saturday, October 20.

Next up Wynyard will go battle Viscount while Watrous will try to stay alive when they host a tough Caronport team.
