The Elgar Petersen Arena welcomed many spectators to the Youth Bonspiel on Saturday and Sunday and was hosted by the Humboldt Curling Club.

Junior Coordinator with the Humboldt Curling Club, Brian Wempe, says that the youth spiels are always great for attracting a large group of onlookers.

"It's something that always catches us by surprise. Every time we have a youth spiel, there are always people here to watch," says Wempe.

The Youth Bonspiels differ from the adult ones, because of all the outpouring of support from family members in the crowd.

"It's really neat. Every time you put on a youth spiel, the building is always full of spectators."

Two divisons were competing in the bonspiel: four teams in the "15 and under category" and five teams in the "18 and under" division. The teams played a Round Robin where every team is guaranteed their four games. Wempe says the spiel was doing a pay-per-win of $40.

Wempe says the Humboldt Youth Bonspiel is always a popular one, province-wide. "Our facility's great, our ice is great, so the teams keep coming back," he says.

Humboldt welcomed teams from Lanigan, Watrous, Rosetown, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert, and Wempe says the 10th annual Youth Bonspiel has been "getting a great response".
