The Saskatchewan Trappers Association celebrated its 50th Annual Convention at Jubilee Hall from Friday until Sunday.

The annual convention involved trap displays, retailers, fur auction companies, trap setting, trap safety, skinning demonstrations and pelt preparation for auction. Trappers could learn about ways to help improve skills or learn skills they've never used before.

"Our convention is focused on education and awareness of what we do in the province as trappers. It's to bring people in and really provide some education and understanding of what we do for wildlife management with the resources we have in Saskatchewan," said Wrangler Hamm, President of the Saskatchewan Trappers Association.

Saskatchewan's Trappers Association represents 4-thousand trappers in the province. The goal of the association is to make sure their trappers are professionals, not only for a trappers sake but also the animals that are to be harvested.

"Years ago we saw that trapping strategies were a secret. You'd never let your secrets out, and now in the last number of years, it's not that way."

With 2019 marking the 50th Anniversary, the Association looks to keep the convention afloat another five decades.

"It's a great milestone we are very proud of and we're excited for where we are in this province," says Hamm.
