As the last of the snow melts around us, many gardening enthusiasts are busy making plans for the growing season ahead.

When Paul Kneeshaw, owner, and horticulturist at Misty Gardens watches gentlemen come into the greenhouse, he knows just where to guide them.

"We direct them over to the tomatoes because that's mens' favourite thing! We have a tomato for every man!" Kneeshaw says of the countless varieties of tomato plants available this season.

Kneeshaw is a huge fan of the fruit and is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the first cherry tomatoes fit to eat, which he says should be ready shortly after Mother's Day.

If your focus is more on perennials this season, Kneeshaw recommends this year's new variation of petunia called "Pink Sky". The bright pink flower with white speckles is akin to the popular "Night Sky" variety which has dark purple petals and white, star-like speckles.

Kneeshaw also noted some tips for those boasting a green thumb:

"Be patient. it's been so cold. Pretty soon you'll be able to work the ground and fertilizer is always a good idea."

"Water is first and fertilizer is second to make your plants look awesome", he says.

Building and maintaining a garden offers a sense of pride for Kneeshaw."Watching the plants grow..taking pride in having the plants perform when you water them and fertilize them."
