The Elks Hall in Allan will play host to a charity ball Saturday night which is a fundraiser for a few different charities.

The event is essentially a dance that is open to all ages for $5 an adult, and $2.50 for 12 and under.

Allan Elks President Mike Dukart filled us in on what charities they are raising money for.

"Twenty percent will go towards the Elks and Royal Purple fund for children, the second one is SPARC, that's the Saskatchewan Pediatric Auditory Rehabilitation Center in Saskatoon, the third charity we will be raising money for is the Elks seniors home and the next charity that will be receiving some of the funds, this is the one I'm really excited about because it's fairly new with the Elks, is the Caroline Carts Program."

The Elks and Royal Purple fund for children along with SPARC are dedicated to children who are born deaf or hard of hearing, they also support addictions awareness and other medical distresses.

The Elks Seniors housing program have built seniors homes in Esterhazy, Moose Jaw, Nipwain, Rosetown, Hanley, Moosomin, and Davidson.

The proceeds from the charity ball will be split between the five different charities.

The Caroline Carts program was just started a year ago and has since gone nation wide with their shopping carts that are specially designed to assist special needs families while shopping.

The Allan Elks provide assistance to as many people as possible and cover a wide range of communities and organizations according to Dukart, "most of it has been Allan, Bradwell, Clavet, Elstow, Zelma, Young, Watrous, and with the Caroline's Cart program that were trying to get moving, we're trying to get these carts in places like Watrous, Humboldt, and Saskatoon."

The Allan Elks decided to do this event and then challenge other Elks lodges to do the same.

"Bladworth had accepted our challenge and they did a pie auction to help to raise money for these same charities, Beachy was unable to accept the challenge but they gave us a handsome donation of $1000, and the Muenster Elks have accepted our challenge, they haven't picked a date but they're thinking of doing the same event that we are," said Dukart.

The organization has had many sponsors jump on board and donate some big ticket items for raffles and silent auction as well.

Prizes even include out of province prizes including a $150 family pass to some of the theme parks in the West Edmonton Mall, a one night cabin rental in White Horse Yukon, and one a night hotel accommodation in the northern rockies lodge in northern B.C.

The event gets underway at 6pm.
