An annual fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis saw a record turnout on Saturday.

Over 600 people attended a pancake breakfast, raising over $23,000 for CF.

The breakfast, held at Marean Lake Valley Resort, around 150 kilometres northeast of Humboldt, has been running for 12 years now.

Lana Woulfe's son Hunter is the reason the event began.

"He was diagnosed when he was nine and a half months old," she explained. "Since then, we started raising some money for CF, and our pancake breakfast has been one of our biggest fundraisers."

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder, which affects the digestive system and lungs.

Woulfe says that it is something that her son has to work on every day.

"Hunter has been on lots of medications. He takes pills every day, he has to take pills every time he eats. He does physio twice a day. His life, every day, he has to work on it, otherwise he is going to end up in the hospital."

The breakfast is one of two events typically held by the Woulfe's throughout the year and has come a long way since its inception.

"Awareness has been a huge part of our reason for doing these. We started back in 2005 and I think he had 95 people and raised around $500 dollars."

Woulfe says that recently, they had been seeing around 500 people and $20,000 raised, before this year's new record.

In September, Hunter's Golf for Cystic Fibrosis will be held once again, taking place at Green Hills Golf Resort at Greenwater Lake.
