Live professional theater hit Humboldt on Tuesday night, as Arts Humboldt hosted Naked Tourist, Sacred Mountain.

The play, based on a true story, where a naked picture taken on a mountain was shared on social media, and following an earthquake sometime later, residents of the country felt they were cursed based on the photo.

The rest of the play is created based on how the production thinks the aftermath would have gone.

Brian Grest of Arts Humboldt says they were thrilled to be able to host a live professional act, which was done by Dumb Ax Productions.

"They performed it in November to sold out audiences and no longer had the run there, so they were taking it on the road, and Arts Humboldt capitalized on the opportunity to invite them to Humboldt."

Grest says that this was a chance for them to bring in a production you might attend in a larger centre but without all the added expenses.

"Arts Humboldt is knocking themselves out to try and bring different opportunities to Humboldt. For this production, we offered the exact same thing you would get in Saskatoon without having to travel."

As is the case with all their offerings, any leftover money from the event goes right back to the organization to continue to allow residents of the area a low-cost night out.

"If there is any net proceeds, Arts Humboldt banks it to provide other opportunities for the arts."

Grest says they are also continuing to put aside funds to help furnish or equip a performing arts facility or help revamp a current facility into a more suitable set-up.
