Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt welcomed those involved in their organization for a celebration on Thursday night.

Their annual recognition night took place at the Humboldt and District Gallery.

Development Coordinator Jodie Hergott said that it is a chance for them to say thanks.

"We want to recognize and show our appreciation to our donors, our sponsors over the year, and also our bigs."

Four awards were handed out during the course of the night.

Receiving the Youth of the Year award was Paige Newberry. Volunteer of the Year went to Brenda Freistadt, while the Mentor of the Year was Kelly Painter.

Hergott added that they also hand out a Champion of the Year award, which is typically given to a business or corporation for their assistance. This year, it went to Reel Attractions.

Caseworker Morgan Forster noted that it is the partnerships, like with Reel Attractions, that helps them out, along with their matches.

"They're not only able to facilitate our programs, like providing passes for our matches to go to the movies, but our mentors also make a huge impact on the lives of the people they mentor, but also in the community," she said. "It lifts the community up and creates a good attitude."

This year marked the fourth year that the celebration has been hosted.
