It's Victims and Survivors of Crime Week so to commemorate that two bar-b-cues will be held in the region to raise funds and awareness.

One will be Wednesday at the Humboldt Co-op food store, the second will be Thursday in Watrous, also at the Co-op food store.

Tracey Shewciw, the Assistant Coordinator at Sask Central Victim Services based here in Humboldt speaks about this year's theme for the week, 'the power of their voices.'

"Many victims and survivors are looking to move beyond their victimization and use the power of their voices to create positive change. While all victims of crime  define their experiences differently their victimization doesn't need to define them."

Shewciw explains a small portion of the work they do.

"We offer four different services really, and that's information, referrals, support and advocacy. We work with our clients for as long as required whether that be days, months or even years in some instances."

She covers some of the instances that could get them involved with a client.

"Everything from domestic violence to child abuse to suicides and attempted suicides, fires, break and enters, theft, fraud, mental health issues, all kinds."

The Humboldt based organization is a newer office that has been in existence for about six months. If you need their services you can call Shewciw's office at 682-6408.

The bar-b-cues begin at 11:30 both days and last about two hours.

You can hear more from Shewciw below in her interview with Bolt FM's Sarah Miller.
