Humboldt is known for its lighthouse on the prairies, also known as, the Water Tower.

Today the Water Tower Committee held their annual BBQ fundraiser to support the needs of the Water Tower.

Jean Price with the Museum and Gallery in Humboldt tells us what some of those needs are.

"It requires a lot of upkeep. It needs to be repainted every few years, needs new shingles every few years, there has been so much work done on it in the last 20 years that it would be a shame to see it fall back."

The water tower has been in Humboldt since 1915 when it was built.

"It is the only water tower in Saskatchewan that you are able to go inside and climb up. It also played an important role in the history and development of the city. It was because of the water tower that we were able to become a city rather than a tiny little village."

The Water Tower in Humboldt was recently named one of the 50 best things to do in Canada and only two places got recognized in Saskatchewan.

The Water Tower is open for tours throughout the summer.
