Work continues with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt, as they look to chip away at a list of littles waiting to be matched up.

The organization recently had their annual recognition gala, which allowed them to say thanks to their partners and those who contribute to the development of their littles.

Caseworker Morgan Forster says that it can be a long wait for matches to take place.

"We do have 17 littles on our wait list right now. Many of them have been waiting for a year or more, so we're hoping to get more mentors involved and get our littles off the waiting list."

The number in waiting more than doubles the number of current matches, according to Forster, who added that those who are matched up are enjoying their bonds.

"We currently have 13 matches and they're going strong," she said. "We have more interviews coming up lately, so hopefully we will have some more matches. The current ones are going very well, the kids are happy."

A report from 2016 found that on average boys are waiting almost twice or three times as long as girls to have a successful match.
