Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan says strong demand has helped boost the company's projections for this year.

The fertilizer producer, which has mines in Lanigan and Allan is expecting to earn between 45 and 65 cents per share in 2017.

After announcing their fiscal year margins for 2016 in January, PCS had stated that they had anticipated shares to fall within 35 to 55 cents.

At that time they also noted that prices were trending in a positive direction and the first quarter report agrees with that, with shares at 18 cents each - up from just nine cents last year.

Chief Executive Officer Jochen Tilk stated that increased production at a lower cost mine in Rocanville has also helped contribute to a stronger first quarter.
