The world has lost another legend.

Floral, Saskatchewan born Gordie Howe passed away at 88 years-old Friday morning.

Former Humboldt Broncos General Manager and Head Coach Dean Brockman had the opportunity to share the dinner table with Mr. Hockey after their RBC Cup win in 2008.

"In that time frame it looked like he could still play so certainly it was a great memory and just the stories that he shared and some friendly advice he gave along the way. He kept telling you to pursue your dreams, certainly it was one of the greatest moments of my life."

Brockman was at that dinner with other hockey champions as the Broncos were coming off their second national title in five seasons. He said there was plans in place to make sure Howe was treated with the utmost respect but from Brockman's angle, he wanted none of the prowess.

"There was protocol to being around him and certainly he had his sons around him quite closely at that time but like I said, you stood up and paid attention. Really he didn't, he just wanted to sit down and chat about hockey."

Current Broncos' GM/HC Darcy Haugan played college hockey in Michigan and is a proud supporter of most of the state's sports franchises. He also met the man himself on a pair of occasions, once while working for the Estevan Bruins and another while in Detroit at the 2008 Stanley Cup final.

"He was about as humble as a man as you could meet, stayed until every last autograph was signed. What struck me personally was his ability to each person that came to get an autograph he interacted with that person so it actually took him longer than it should have but he made each person feel important."

Brockman, now an Assistant Coach with the Saskatoon Blades says the fact there is a statue outside the rink they play at is just a testimonial to what he meant for the game, province and the National Hockey League.

"It's there for a reason, that tells the story of who he really was. It's sombre, flags are flown a little lower today, he will always be remembered that's for sure."

Howe played professionally for over 50 years, most notably with the Detroit Red Wings.
