It's a dream that almost any ice-sports community wants to realize. For the Bruno Rink Committee and its hard-working fundraisers, the dream of an artificial ice plant is almost here.

While Bruno's hockey programs are growing in the youth levels, the sporting town is probably best known for broomball and its undeniable dominance in the sport on a provincial and national level. It's the theme of a history book. To have artificial ice in a community so widely known for its prowess will be a boost.

Carla Jule on the fundraising committee explains what put the team over the top. "We were doing pretty well with our fundraising projects. We got a really nice donation from the Bruno Credit Union for $100,000 a few months ago. Then just last week, it was announced that Mosaic gave us $25,000 and then Richardson Pioneer called with a $50,000 donation. We were very excited, and with that, we are ready to have our artificial ice ready for this coming season."

With two initiation hockey teams on the horizon and the girls' hockey program using the facility, the artificial ice plant will be welcomed for years. Sledge hockey and figure skating programs will occupy some of the time, but Jule hopes that there will be available time for other communities to use the ice as needed.

With other anticipated donations and an impending announcement with the club's Trip of the Month draw, the path is paved for work on the installation to proceed.

Jule says, "Our goal was $380,000 which was a little higher than what we needed to cover incidentals."

The Bruno Rink Events Page on Facebook will track the additional funding and allow community members to say on top of the installation progress.
