Strong community support is helping to develop strong, resilient leaders at Bruno School.

The school recently received a donation of $12,500 from the Bruno Ladies Night Out committee.

Member Carla Jule, who is also Chair of the School Community Council, says that support on both sides has been fantastic.

"Two years ago we decided we should try a Ladies Night Out in our community again. We were looking to raise a large sum of money for our school because we started up the Leader in Me program."

Jule says that the first year the committee ran, they were able to bring in $11,000 for the school.

The Leader in Me program is now in its second year in Bruno, and Jule says that it is quickly helping to develop young leaders in the community.

"It's based on the seven habits of highly effective people, so it's teaching students skills about self-confidence and to succeed as leaders."

Bruno School is one of the groundbreakers for providing leadership resources for their students, and it has been noticed, says Jule.

"It's very exciting to be one of the few schools that are getting going. It's awesome for our students because we are seeing plenty of great things happening in the school. We already were a good school, but now we say we're great."

The school held a leadership day last school year, where they invited area schools to see what they are all about, and that has helped spread the Leader in Me thought to other Horizon schools.

Jule says that representatives from the school are headed to Drake on January 31 to present to their school about the program.
