A graduate of Bruno School has received a $20,000 scholarship from the University of Regina.

Kallin Kehrig, 17, said he was happy when he got the call.

“I remember I yelled at my phys ed. teacher (Rex Selby) because we were on a field trip - I’m like, yeah Selby! Just all excited.”

The Circle of Honors scholarship is awarded automatically based on an applicant’s high school average - Kallin’s was 99.2 per cent.

The school awards the scholarship to one student in each of 10 regions across Canada.

Kallin credits his academic success to studying and hard work.

“I love learning. I always want to learn new things and try new things.”

He plans to study computer science, and possibly math as well.

Kallin’s father, Mark Kehrig, said the scholarship takes a large financial burden off the family.

Kallin has a keen attention to detail and won’t hand in an assignment until it’s perfect, Mark said.

“He has worked very hard to get where he is and I’m sure he’ll go very far in the future.

“I know he wants to get into artificial intelligence, so if robots rise up, I know who to look to.”
