The Humboldt Broncos were beaten down, but it wasn't by an opposition team.

On Tuesday, February 19th Calico Gymnastics welcomed in the Humboldt Broncos hockey team for a gymnastics fitness challenge and workout.

"It was a fun challenge that our coaches decided to put together to showcase what our girls can do and challenge the Broncos, see how strong they actually are. It's a fitness challenge specifically, but yeah, its a competition. Our girls are out there to show the Broncos that they're tougher than them," said Kristin Rogers Executive Director with Calico Gymnastics.

The Broncos were put through various forms of gymnastic challenges including parallel bars, uneven bars, handstand walking, and more.

"I didn't know what to expect going into it, but I was impressed with what those kids can do. That was one of the tougher workouts I've done all season. They showed me what's up, that's for sure," said Broncos' forward and assistant captain Derek Patter.

Even before the event started it had some players questioning their ability.

"The kids are full of energy. super positive and very supportive of each other, it's really cool to see. I don't think I'm going to stack up too well against them. These kids are the real deal, so I'm not sure if I'm up to their level, but I'll try my best," said Broncos' goalie Rayce Ramsay.

The entire Broncos team was able to attend the event. This was the first year that the two teams paired up for a competition, and something Rogers hopes can be a yearly event.

"It's a fantastic idea, you can tell everybody is having lots of fun, so I'm hoping it will become something we can do every year. It's nice to put the two sports together and have a little fun. They're always focused on training and competing so it's nice to do something fun once in a while," said Rogers,

Although they may have got shown up by the athletes at Calico, once again the Broncos have shown great support in the community.
