Calico Gymnastics held their first competition in the new building on Saturday.

Competitors in a variety of age groups competed in all sorts of events throughout the day.

Carolynn MacLean is the President of the Board for Calico Gymnastics.

She talks about how important this event was for Calico.

"This event is important so that our gymnasts can compete here in our hometown, show off our new building and show our building sponsors how appreciative we are of everything they donated, and how this building is going to help us grow as a gymnastics club."

MacLean says the new building is really working out.

"It's great. We're really excited, lot's of hard work has gone in, even with some of the event sponsors. Obviously there's some tweaks to the system, but we're very happy to be in our facility here, hosting our first competition."

MacLean says the Gymnasts are also loving the new facility.

"They're so excited to be able to perform here in their hometown in front of parents and grandparents that maybe couldn't make it out otherwise, and in front of some of their friends and I even saw some school teachers here for their students, so it's just great."

MacLean adds they hope to make this an annual event and extends a huge thank you to the sponsors and volunteers that made this competition possible.
