The Saskatchewan chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society is hoping the SaskParty Government will set money aside to combat human papillomavirus.

The bug is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, and can result in cancers on different areas of the body.

Donna Pasiechnik(pictured above), with the CCS says they are optimistic funding in March 22nd's provincial budget could land them some money for an HPV vaccination program for boys. She says the vaccination can prevent the majority of these infections.

In 2016, nearly 4,400 Canadians will be diagnosed with an HPV cancer and about 1,200 Canadians will die from an HPV cancer.
