Residents of Humboldt vested in the civic election next Wednesday had a chance to hear from almost all the candidates Tuesday night.

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce hosted their election forum, only one mayoral candidate was on hand of the three entered, one council hopeful made an opening statement then exited.

Chamber Executive Director Crystal Young says this is completely volunteer but she feels candidates may have set themselves back not participating.

"This is an opportunity for people to come out and kind of state their platform and why is it they ought to be voted for. In the absence of that individual they are then losing that platform to kind of state why they should be voted for."

Neither Rob Muench or Shawn Wempe were present for the mayoral candidates, Harley Bentley was the lone hopeful on hand. Sandor Demeter, who is running for council made an opening remark and then was excused.

Young explained why they take the time to plan and host the forum.

"I think it's very important for us to support the democratic process within our community. The City of Humboldt is a very important stakeholder in this region so it's important for us to give community members a voice and forums allow them an opportunity to do that. They can ask questions and get some answers."

We will have more on the forum with video highlights later Wednesday on this website.

Our election stories will continue daily up until October 25th, the eve of the vote.
