SaskCanola hosted a regional oilseed producer meeting in Humboldt Tuesday.

One of the speakers was Agronomy Specialist Warren Ward who continued to spread the word regarding how producers can reach the 52 bushels per acre mark by 2025.

Ward took the approach however of pushing your neighbours to get there with their increased yields.

"It's just an interesting take I think on the same message that we do deliver from time to time and we just took a tongue in cheek approach and thought let's talk to encourage people to get their neighbours up to that 52 bushels an acre average yield."

Ward said there isn't room for adding acres so the yield to acre results is what needs to increase through different improvements.

"Genetic improvements between now and 2025, and then there is four agronomic pillars we look at as well. Things like improving stand establishment, fertility improvements, integrated pest management and keeping a close eye on harvest management as well."

He said performing tests of your soil is one way to increase your production as well.

"One thing that we have noticed in the past is that growers who are consistently having higher yields are the ones that are more prone to soil testing. I think there is something there, they do see the value of at least checking up and seeing what those levels are in their field so that they can fertilize accordingly."

He adds getting behind you combine and doing waste tests is also a beneficial practice to become accustomed to.

A disease and insect specialist from the Ministry of Agriculture spoke, Tom Wolf spoke regarding sprayer technology, attendees also received a flax update as well as an overall market update from Chuck Penner of Leftfield Commodities.

Meetings are continuing this week in Prince Albert, Rosetown and Swift Current.
