Environmental Public Health may not mean much to you, but the work that Certified Public Health Inspectors (CPHI) do is important.

The City of Humboldt declared the week of September 25-29 as Environmental Public Health Week.

"The Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors sponsors the week every year to recognize and celebrate Certified Public Health Inspectors and Environmental Public Health Professionals across Canada," explained local CPHI Kari Engele-Carter. "It's a recognition of what we do and what we do in the community."

The week has been celebrated across Canada for the last 14 years, but Engele-Carter added that this is the first time that they have had it proclaimed in Humboldt.

She says that the week is designed to promote moreso from within and ensure that standards are being met.

While water comes through the tap, or food is picked off the store shelves, Engele-Carter says that they make sure it is in top condition beforehand.

"We do work around the food you eat, water you drink and air you breathe," she noted. "We also work with safe areas for children and places where our families gather and play and learn, so we're very much involved in the activities and the area of Humboldt."

A proclamation was officially signed prior to the week by Mayor Rob Muench, along with inspectors who have worked in the area.
