Work is underway on the next phase of the Centennial Park grounds outside the Humboldt Uniplex.

Leisure Services Director Mike Ulriksen noted the work that is taking place.

"It's something we already budgeted for in 2017, and now that the parking lot is completed and we were able to get the tender out, we are now spreading the main dirt pile that was stripped off the original ball diamond," he explained. "We are re-distributing that dirt back into what will be the future greenspace."

Ulriksen says that once the dirt is back in, they will move into the next portion of the work.

"We're hoping within the next week or so we will have all that dirt spread out and levelled, and then we will be bringing in a company to seed it, and then we will be working with the high school to get the greenspace further developed."

"Hopefully by this time next year, we will have a lot of nice grass growing throughout the property."

Grass seed will be placed around the berm and the surrounding area.

The city is also working on the greenspace in coordinance with the Horizon School Division, which, when complete, will serve as a new football and soccer field.

The school division would like to see sod laid in the current "bowl" portion of the grounds, in order to have the field up and running in a quicker timeframe.
