Pound-Maker Ag Ventures at Lanigan now has a new President.

Brad Wildeman who worked with the company for the last 30 years has retired with Brad Welter taking over the role of President and Senior Operating Officer.

Welter has worked at Pound-Maker for the past 14 years, and has 29 years of experience in the cattle industry predominately in the feeding sector.

He notes it’s a challenging time in the feedlot sector.

"We're on a downturn in this cattle cycle right now, so most feedlots have got inventory today that was purchased at higher prices that are going out for slaughter right now that are not the best of returns today."

Welter talks about the immediate future for the company.

"We're going to see some growth in some of our grazing operations, as well as some of our farming operations, but at this point we won't see any big change other than we will see a bit of growth in those areas."

Pound-Maker is Canada’s first integrated feedlot and fuel ethanol facility, with a feedlot capacity of 26 thousand head and ethanol production of about 14 million litres a year.
