Ken Cheveldayoff, who is in the Saskatchewan Party leadership race, visited Humboldt Thursday for a meet and greet at the Bella Vista Inn.

He says that it is important to visit the ridings in rural Saskatchewan.

"That's the base of our province, that's the base of our party. It's an economic driver and it's just as important as urban Saskatchewan. There are 61 constituencies in the province, my goal is to make it to each one. Humboldt is a very important one as well."

Cheveldayoff explains what platform he is running on.

"I'm very much in favour of economic development and growth in the province. We've had a 10-year growth plan under Premier Wall that has served us very well. I think most importantly we have to look at our recent budget, admit where the mistakes were made, and talk about the next 10-year plan."

A group of about nine people attended the meet and greet on Thursday and asked questions about Cheveldayoff's plan and ask about current issues.

"Every person brought issues that are important to them," he explained. "They talked about provincial issues largely but they also talked about local issues as far as agriculture and innovation. They were very strong against the carbon tax, there are better ways to have carbon reduction in the province. That message was loud and clear here today."

Cheveldayoff Grew up in rural Saskatchewan and is currently the MLA for Saskatoon-Willowgrove. Before entering the leadership race he was the Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sport.
