At a time of giving, Humboldt Emergency Relief Organization will be able to offer more assistance to patients, thanks to a local business.

In November, Viking Benefit Solutions announced that they will be matching sales of Christmas Bulbs sold by HERO throughout the month.

Bulbs were sold at Humboldt's three grocery stores at a cost of two dollars each.

At the three locations, $750 was raised by the organization, with Viking exceeding that total, and contributing $1,000 to HERO.

President of Viking Benefits, Doug Biehn, stated that having a partnership with HERO is a good fit for the business, as it has been a vital service for himself as well as his wife, who sadly passed away.

The organization was founded in 1993 by members of the Humboldt Fire Department, Ambulance and RCMP to give financial aid to patients who have uncovered medical expenses for emergency treatment.

Money raised to provide this important effort through HERO comes from fundraising activities like the bulbs, as well as barbecues, additional donations, and other events.

HERO branches out past Humboldt into bordering communities, including Pilger, Lake Lenore, Annaheim, Englefeld, LeRoy, Lanigan, Bruno, Fulda, Middle Lake, Muenster, St. Gregor, Watson, Burr and Guernsey.
