If you noticed City Hall in Humboldt lit green on July 5, you'll have witnessed the City's recognition of National Injury Prevention Day. According to Parachute, a non-profit organization that works to prevent injury and death, National Injury Prevention Day endeavours to raise awareness around injury prevention in an effort to see Canadians living long and fulfilling lives.

The agency reports that injury is the number one cause of death of Canadians between the ages of one to forty-four. The cost to the Canadian economy for lost productivity and expenses is $27 billion. Preventable injury is also the cause of more childhood deaths than any single disease, and for youth, it is a greater cause of death than all other causes combined.

Cities across Canada supported the education initiative by declaring July 5 to be National Injury Prevention Day and lighting public buildings and structures in green. More information on National Injury Prevention Day and the work of the Parachute organization is available at www.parachutecanada.org.
