The City of Humboldt is taking a different route when it comes to Canada Day entertainment this year.

Normally a full day of events are in place at Water Ridge Park from stage shows and bands to petting zoos, games and more.

Recreational Coordinator Michelle Stevenson explains why they changed their celebration plans starting with the ever challenging weather conditions.

"We're starting to get a little gun shy of setting all up at Water Ridge Park and what might come of that, thousands of dollars worth of equipment with really no back up plan. Our department's mandate for the most part is recreation so we thought we've shift the focus a little from the culture side of things."

The spray park will be open all day and the fireworks display will also be at Water Ridge like years past.

"We're just hoping to see people out trying new things," Stevenson continued. "I know the disc golf course is fairly new, get people out there and using it. Same with pickle ball, it is one of our most popular drop in sports in the winter so this gives them an opportunity to try it in the summer."

"Just get families out and see what the city has to offer," she concluded.
