The City of Humboldt will no longer be charging a Caterer Permit Fee at the Uniplex.

The 7% fee that was enforced 2 years ago did not generate the cost recovery that was anticipated.

Crystal Young is the Executive Director for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce.

She talks about how members of the Chamber first reacted to the rate increase.

"We thought that it was prudent on our behalf for our members to kind of acknowledge this, because that 7% increase was something that our members didn't think too kindly of, and there was a lot of debate around that and a lot of conversations with council and the Mayor and the management at the Leisure Services around these types of topics."

Young says Chamber members are thankful this change was made.

"We just want to compliment the management and staff at the Uniplex for thinking outside the box and coming up with other creative ways on achieving some of their outcomes. We want to say 'awesome job' by the City again for going along the plans to ensure that we are continuing to make Humboldt the best place to Live, Work, and Invest."

Director of Leisure Services for the City of Humboldt Mike Ulriksen explains why the fee will no longer be in effect.

"After 2 years we found that we weren't getting the cost recovery numbers that we were hoping to, and we were seeing some diminished rentals as a result of the fee, so we felt that it was in our best interest and in the best interest of our user groups to do away with that portion of our rate structure."

Although the fee is no longer in place for new rentals, fees that remain unpaid are still due and need to be paid.
