The City of Humboldt is offering residents an opportunity to share their budget ideas for 2017.

"Every year council and city staff work together to develop the annual budget for the City of Humboldt," Community Development Director Jennifer Brooks explains. "It's equally important to hear from residents as to what programs and services they feel are most important in the community and what types of avenues do they feel are most appropriate in funding these types of important programs and services."

With a new council being sworn in on Monday, November 7th an orientation period will be required to get the new members up to speed so deliberations are expected to begin early in 2017.

"There is a budget survey live online at humboldt.ca where we're asking for suggestions on how the city should prioritize spending over the next year," Brooks continued. "Budgeting is about balancing what we as citizens want and need and what the city can afford."

If online isn't for you city staff will be on hand at the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce tradeshow this Saturday and Sunday to take suggestions as well as hard copies available to pick up at city hall.

The deadline to submit your ideas is November 25th.

You can hear more from Brooks below in her interview with Bolt FM's Clark Stork.
