Humboldt produces some high-level athletes across the sporting world.

The City of Humboldt recognized and celebrated local athletes who achieved National and Provincial titles throughout 2018 at the Humboldt Broncos game on January 23rd.

An on-ice ceremony was held during the first intermission where Mayor Rob Muench congratulated achievements made to a couple handfuls of local sports stars.

Tia Zimmerman and Samantha Fisher were the first to head out onto the red carpet laid down at center ice. Both Zimmerman and Fisher are national medalists with the Special Olympics Swim Team. Zimmerman has been competing for the last five years and is set to attend the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Fisher has been competing for six years and has also competed in bowling at a national level.

The Humboldt Hammerheads swim club had 35 swimmers compete at Provincials in 2018. Eight of those swimmers brought home gold medals. Gabe Bagagonio, Garrett Brown, Reed Cropper, Cohen Gasper, Abbey McLarty, Charlize Parish, Darren Romanuik and Lauren Hinz were the gold medal winners. The entire Hammerhead team finished second in points in the province at Provincials, as well as broke three provincial records during the season.

The Prairie Central Female Hockey team went undefeated at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford in February of last year. They took home the gold medal with four Humboldt residents on the team including Lauren Hinz, Nicole Girolami, Kiana Leicht and Drew Vipond.

Calico Gymnastics produced a provincial gold medal winner on the Uneven Bars in Raya Wacker. Wacker has been competing for the last five years as a level six gymnast.

Finally, with Marion Gymnastics in Saskatoon, Marie Millette won gold in the Vault at Provincials. Millette has collected seven gold, seven silver and one bronze in 2015 at provincial competitions. She has been named to team Saskatchewan once again for this upcoming season.

Congratulations to all our athletes and their incredible achievements.
