While the City of Humboldt has seen some sprinkling of snowfall, the majority is still on its way.

As such, the city takes some time to remind and inform residents about how their snow clearing program operates throughout the winter.

Following the accumulation of five centimetres of snow, Main Street and Glenn Hall Drive are cleared first, as they are deemed the top priority roads in the city with access to all other roadways and areas.

Streets with access to schools and bus routes are second on the list to be cleared, while residential roads are next on the list, which typically are cleared after 7.5 centimetres of snow.

All other roadways will be worked on after 10 cm of snow, and will be reduced to a quality of 5 cm of compacted snow.

Timelines for clearing the snow is within two days of any major snowfall for the top priority roads, with residential roads being worked on one business day after the completion of major roads.

Residential roads typically see work done around four business days after.

To help reduce slick intersections and other areas, sanding is done as needed on a daily basis.

Trails and pathways are cleared within two business days of snowfall, or once all other areas are taken care of.

The city says that crews attempt to be out no later than 7:00am following a period of snowfall.
