We are just over two months from celebrating Canada Day but the planning for the city's event at Water Ridge Park is well underway.

Events Manager Mike Ulriksen is hoping to bring in some different acts for this year.

"We're looking to fill our roster for our talent, everything from musicians, to singers, to dancers, magicians, you name it, we're looking for talent. We've had a nice mix of talent over the last couple years both locally and bringing talent in from out of town. What we want to do this year is find those diamonds in the rough here in Humboldt that we haven't been able to put on stage so far."

Ulriksen says they are looking for local talent, but that definitely isn't restricted to Humboldt.

"This event isn't obviously just a Humboldt event, we've got people that come in from all the outlining communities to come and take part. It's great that we're able to share that and share the park space and see 1,000-1,500 people come out and just enjoy a day in the sun, the spray pad, the bar-b-cues, the entertainment. We're really excited to see what we can add to this year's event."

He adds that if you have a local group that may want to be on hand as well for some publicity or perhaps some fundraising, they might have a spot for you.

"We've got a couple that will be coming back this year but yeah, definitely. If there is someone that is interested and wants to take part and we can get some exposure for you or find something that works for both of us we're definitely open to anything."

In the past groups such as the Scouts and the Water Tower Committee have been on hand to raise funds for their organizations.
