As you celebrate the end of Family Day long weekend, or perhaps the beginning of a winter break, the City of Humboldt is inviting you to get outdoors Monday and be active.

Family in motion Day takes place, with many venues offering the chance to enjoy winter activities.

City Events Manager Mike Ulriksen states the importance of family members being active so kids aren't just sitting around all day.

"There is more emphasis on the family and how important it is to get out and do stuff together," he said. "If the whole family is active together, it is a lot easier to get kids to do that on a more consistent basis than if they are stuck on their own to go do it."

The Carlton Trail Ski Club at Dixon is hosting trial skiing beginning at 10:00am. All ages are welcome to join qualified instructors in learning how to cross country ski.

Later on, the club is holding an outdoor family fun day from 1:30 to 5:00pm. You can enjoy the trails, hills, skating rank and the heated clubhouse, which will also feature sleigh rides and a hot dog roast.

In Humboldt, the Elgar Petersen Arena has family shinny from 1:00 to 2:15, with public skating commencing immediately after until 4:15. At the Aquatic Centre, a special rate for swimming is being offered at two dollars per person or five dollars for the family from 1:00 to 4:00.

"We've got facilities here that make it easy to be active. Going swimming, getting on the ice for 30 minutes, easy stuff, not costly, we definitely want to introduce people to that," Ulriksen noted.

All youth participants at Family in motion Day events will receive a free ticket to the Humboldt Broncos game Saturday when they host the Melfort Mustangs.
