With the Christmas break upon us, hockey teams in the City of Humboldt are taking a pause from their busy schedules.

That allows for plenty of extra ice time at the Elgar Petersen Arena, which the city is turning over to you to enjoy.

"It's been a busy fall again this year, our rink is being utilized to the max," said Events Manager Mike Ulriksen. "Obviously at Christmas time, the organizations slow down, and there is some open ice time, so we want to pack that full, get some families out and enjoy public skating and shinny."

Beginning Monday afternoon and lasting until January 3, you can enjoy public skating and shinny ice times for free. The schedule can be viewed below.

With minimal supervision, Ulriksen reminds you to ensure of your children's safety on the ice.

"Helmets are always a good idea, safety is always a good idea. Just be conscious of everyone else around you when you're out there skating. We want it to be fun for everyone."

For shinny times, he added that there will be some supervision with sticks and pucks hitting the ice.
