Schools all across the Horizon School Division celebrated all the hard work coaches and referees do throughout the school year.

October 10th, schools all over Saskatchewan showed their appreciation for school sports coaches and officials.

The celebration arrives during school sports week where schools around the province celebrate school athletics. Coaches and referees were shown how much they mean to the students and fans by choice of each school. Some schools held a breakfast, others held a lunch, or just a simple thank you.

"School Sport has a very strong sportsmanship aspect, we're not just teaching kids to get better at a sport but we're teaching them to become better and understanding humans as well," said Brian Grest on what coaches and officials offer in school sport.

Coaches put in 600-800 hours every year to help students succeed and to be a better person. As for referees, most sports require an official and if one is not present the game cannot proceed.
