A mirthful crowd took to the street in Muenster as the Hotel Muenster presented the first Comedy in the Street event on Saturday night. The warm summer breeze was the perfect accompaniment to the high energy antics of Joel Jeffrey, Myles Morrison, and Jody Peters. All three veteran performers hail from Saskatchewan, so there was no end of witty observations on rural Saskatchewan life and homegrown experience.

Jeffrey kicked the evening off as MC with a set drawn on his extensive travels though the province. He also riffed on family life during the pandemic and the delight of being back on the road even if the stage was a flatbed. Morrison brought his newly minted publication, The Great Saskatchewan Joke Book, replete with his take on Saskatchewan life and more than a few mentions of local communities.

Myles Morrison similarly reflected on the pandemic and his emergence from it, but he also chimed in on rural farm life, in his limited experience, along with rants on COVID behaviours from baking various other pandemic induced sessions. Morrison’s fast paced, stream of consciousness approach had the audience in stitches, a clear indication of  why Morrison was selected top ten in SiriusXM’s 2018 comedy competition.

Aberdeen’s Jody Peters anchored the evening with his commentary about growing up as the sole child of Jamaican-German heritage in the farming community. Again, Peters rural upbringing and accompanying farm recollection from his youth struck a chord with the audience. So did his recollection of a fateful evening junket with a local hockey team that ended with a frenetic tour of LeRoy, St. Gregor and Muenster which locals instantly recognized.

In the midst of harvest, summertime activities, and a Rider tilt, the sizable audience came out to visit, laugh, and revel in the first major event bringing Muenster and area residents together.
