Community members in Jansen came together last Sunday to help a local family in need.

The Zerbin family's yard became victim to flooding at Quill Lake, so a fundraiser was held to move their house, shed, and other buildings a few miles north.

Fundraiser Chairperson Bruce Elke tells us more about the fundraiser.

"At three o'clock, we had the silent auction, at seven o'clock was the live auction, around then was the steak night which had steak and hamburgers. Then we had a 50/50 draw as well, with a guaranteed jackpot of $1500 and it ended up going for just over $2200."

He tells us why the community came together to help the Zerbin's.

"They decided it was time to move, the water kept rising so they moved three miles north. There wasn't a lot of government help so we decided to help them out."

Elke goes on to explain why the fundraiser was so successful.

"We all came together. We didn't have trouble finding items, people stepped forward to help and donate items. in the end, people stepped forward to bid and that's what made it successful."

They were able to raise over $120,000 to help the Zerbin's with their move.
